Why be in a Start Smart Discussion group?
Have you ever felt you lacked a basic knowledge about a subject that you’d like to be able to talk about intelligently? Then, felt you’d like to learn more about that subject but with the little spare time you had, you just wanted to ‘kick back and have fun’instead? I use to and that is why I formed the first Start Smart Discussion Group. For over four years now, our group has been enjoying amazing conversations and having a lot of fun doing it.
Partake in lively discussions
Discussions are always interesting and enlightening, and sometimes they can become quite lively due to your choice of subject.
No matter what the subject remember levity can go along way to understanding.
make informed decisions
Sound bites are not the basis for smart decisions.
Start a conversation with knowledge and facts so you feel confident expressing your opinion on the subject.
Optimize Learning time
In two hours gain ten hours worth of research.
The concept is simple…. each member spends a minimal amount of time researching a subject. Then the group gathers to discuss what you each have learned. Quite effortlessly, in two hours’ time you easily gain at least ten hours’ worth of insight by just having a fun focused conversation with a group of new and old friends.
stay in touch with broader issues
Our world changes at a neck breaking pace, give yourself a chance to stay current.
There are so many issues and technologies worth learning more about. Allow the group to choose subjects of interest then dig in an enjoy the process of learning.
Listen and be heard
Practice active listening, express yourself openly and honestly and avoid making judgments.
This part is really important to the process. Show respect and give everyone a chance to speak. During this time your understanding of a subject broadens exponentially.
be part of a dynamic group
The academic portion of the gathering is great, and socially ’kicking back and having fun’ is awesome.
Allow your Start Smart Discussion group to evolve. We started out meeting after work, having a great discussion then enjoying an adult beverage afterwards. Over time we have on occasion thrown in a get-away weekend for fun which includes a dynamic discussion.
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn.“
– Benjamin Franklin
Our Members say
I now look forward to investing time and researching a subject for any upcoming meeting, because I know the others will be doing the same, and I will come out of it so much more informed."
